Job Openings and Educational Opportunities

-------------- Summer in Berlin-------------------
Dear Colleagues,

At the beginning of this year we have announced the 7th Summer Institute on Bounded Rationality in Psychology and Economics that will take place from July 8 to July 16, 2008 at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin. The objective of the Summer Institute is to introduce students from various fields to the study of bounded rationality. This year, the institute will focus on the topic of ecological rationality and will include Nobel Prize laureate Vernon Smith as a keynote speaker.

The participants of the Summer Institute will be talented graduate students and postdoctoral fellows from around the world. We intend to provide stipends to all participants to cover part of their expenses for travel and accommodation. In response to the raised questions the topics and faculty are now available at:
www.mpib-berlin.mpg.de/summerinstitute/faculty.htm .

Please notice that the deadline has been extended until April 7, 2008.

You may find detailed information on the Summer Institute and the application process in the attachment as well as on our website:

-------------- For Undergrads interested in Judgment and decision making ----
(MHB: I suspect this applies to MA students as well)

The Center for Behavioral Decision Research at Carnegie Mellon University
is currently accepting applications from undergraduates interested in
judgment and decision making for a summer research internship. For
information about the Center for Behavioral Decision Research, please
visit: http://cbdr.cmu.edu

The CBDR internship is open to students who are interested in and would
like to conduct research investigating topics in social and cognitive
psychology, behavioral economics, organizational behavior, marketing, the
impact of alcohol on decision-making, and risk perception. Interns will
spend approximately 30 hours/week working on current research projects in
the center with Professors Loewenstein, Moore, Morewedge, Weber, Vosgerau, and graduate student researchers. Work will include conducting experimental sessions, reading background literature, and coding and analyzing data. The internship begins on June 2nd. We expect at least a one month commitment.

The internship does not cover the cost of housing, traveling, or living expenses. Accepted applicants must make their own arrangements for summer housing. Economical housing should not be difficult to find, as Pittsburgh is one of the most affordable cities in America. It is also pleasant to
live in: Pittsburgh been voted America’s ‘most livable city’ for 2007,
directly above San Francisco, Seattle, and Portland (criteria include:
housing affordability (cost of living); transportation; jobs; education;
climate; crime; health care; recreation; and ambience (museums, performing
arts, restaurants and historical districts). More information can be found
at: http://www.visitpittsburgh.com/

If interested, please send a one page cover letter describing your research
experience and interests, a Curriculum Vita, and one letter of
recommendation to Professor Morewedge’s administrative assistant, Ms.
Eileen Simone by email to eileens@andrew.cmu.edu, or by snail mail to:
