"The home is actually a more dangerous place for American women than city streets. The truth is that family violence is an epidemic in America today."
Surgeon General Antonia C. Novello, 1992
What Is Domestic Violence?
Domestic violence is physical an psychological abuse. It increases as time goes on, and it always results in the intimidation of the battered spouse. Unless it is stopped, domestic violence escalates until it shatters the family, creating a legacy of emotional damage and a multigenerational cycle of violence.
Who Are The Victims?
Victims of domestic violence come from all social, economic, and educational backgrounds. They are our neighbors and friends. Battering is the single major cause of injury to women, surpassing rapes, muggings and even automobile accidents.

The drawing above was done by an eight gear old when she, her mother and little brother were living at the shelter. As you can see, she made herself almost as tall as her mother. Children who live in abusive families often have to grow up very quickly. Human Options is dedicated to making it possible for these little ones to have a childhood.
