Mission Statement
The mission of Psi Chi is to produce a well-educated, ethical, and socially responsible member committed to contributing to the science and profession of psychology and to society in general.
Member Requirements
Membership in Psi Chi is for life. While members do not need to be active to maintain membership, they are expected to participate and be active within the organization.
Members
The CSUF Psi Chi Chapter can only be successful if members actively participate in the scheduled events. For this reason, we have established a system that enables each member to gain benefits from her/his participation.
Active members will receive a certificate of recognition for their participation in the chapter. This certificate can be listed on resumes, curriculum vitaes, and statements of purpose.
Levels of Participation
During the Fall 2009 semester, members are invited to attend 3 general meetings, 2 workshops, a GRE practice exam, 2 community service events, socials and a colloquium. A sign-up sheet will be present at every event. Members who have attended 4 out of these 6 events will receive recognition for "Active Participation", members who attend 6 of these events will receive recognition for "Extraordinary Participation and Involvement."
Members can also volunteer their time to proctor GRE tests and help with Psychology Day. Each time a member volunteers s/he accumulates the equivalent of 1 event attendance. As an example, a member can obtain the highest degree of recognition by attending 2 general meetings (2 pts), donating his/her time or items in 2 service events or drives (2 pts), proctoring the practice GRE test (1 pt), and attending a workshop (1 pt).
ΨΧ: "psee-hee"
You may recognize psi-chi (sy-ky) in the word "psyche". It is a derivitive of the Greek word for soul, spirit, or consciousness: "ψυχή", pronounced with the 'p' sound, "psee-hee" with a harsh emphasis on the 'h' like the 'j' in Spanish.
