Risks of Sexually Transmitted Diseases Survey
Instructions for Risks of Sexually Transmitted Diseases
In this survey, you are asked to judge YOUR perceived risk of contracting
a sexually transmitted disease (STD) from having intimate contact
with another person who may or may not be infected. STDs include
viral diseases such as genital herpes, hepatitis B, genital warts, or HIV (the virus
that causes AIDS), as well as bacterial infections such as syphilis,
gonorrhea, or chlamydia. The following are situations stating
types of sexual contact with another person, along with information
about the OTHER person's past sexual history.
For the purpose of this survey, these are the definitions for
the types of sexual contact and sexual history:
Sexual Contact:
"hand-genital" = manipulating your partner's genitals by hand.
"intercourse" = vaginal or anal penetration by a penis.
"hugging" = clothed embracing
"kissing" = open-mouth to open-mouth contact
"receiving oral sex" = your partner's mouth has contact with your genitals
"giving oral sex" = your mouth has contact with your partner's genitals
Sexual History:
"no prior experience" = the person has no previous sexual contact with anyone.
"sex partner" = a person that engaged in sexual intercourse.
"infected with an STD" = you know for sure that the person has an STD.
"unknown history" = you don't know anything about the person's previous sexual experience.
Please rate what you believe is YOUR RISK of contracting an STD from engaging
in the particular contact with the person. Indicate your judgment by clicking on the appropriate
button from very low risk (to contract an STD) to very high risk (to contract an STD).
