Christine D. Scher, Ph.D.

Dr. Scher earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at San Diego State University and the University of California, San Diego. She then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Missouri- St. Louis' Center for Trauma Recovery. Dr. Scher's research program focuses on cognitive and interpersonal risk for the emotional disorders and she primarily teach courses within the area of clinical psychology.

Emily joined Dr. Scher's lab in the fall of 2011 with an interest in the mediating effects of fear-of-intimacy on childhood
traumatic experience and relationship satisfaction. While she diligently works toward her M.S. in clinical psychology at CSUF, Emily also enjoys baking and a variety of outdoor activities including hiking, camping and cycling.  Emily expects to continue her educational endeavors by pursuing a Ph.D clinical psychology.

Brittney is currently enrolled in CSUF's clinical psychology M.S. program working to acquire a Marriage and Family Therapist license. Her research interests include depression, anxiety and trauma. When Brittney isn't conducting research, she enjoys taking beautiful photographs.

 


 

Melanie Phillips

Melanie is enrolled in CSUF's clinical psychology M.S. program where she expects to graduate in May 2012. Her research interests include trauma, military psychology and substance abuse. After graduation, Melanie plans on pursuing a Ph.D in clinical psychology where she hopes to work at the VA, teach at a university part-time, and open a trauma research/treatment center to further develop the trauma field.


 

Justin Reeder

Justin is enrolled at CSUF working toward his M.S. degree in clinical psychology. He is especially interested in investigating depression. Justin graduated from Ohio University with a B.A. in Psychology and Mathematics. He hopes to continue his education at the doctoral level after he graduates this spring.


 

Ryan Cruz

Ryan is enrolled at CSUF working toward his M.S. degree in clinical psychology. Ryan received his undergraduate degree at San Diego State University before joining the lab. His research interests include depression and anxiety in athletes. When Ryan is not conducting research, he enjoys playing hockey and traveling. After graduation, Ryan hopes to work as a therapist and possibly pursue a Ph.D.

Isil joined the lab in the Spring of 2012 as a graduate student in the M.S. clinical psychology program. After graduating from Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey, she came to the lab with interests in anxiety, trauma and superstitious behavior. After graduation, Isil plans to enter a Ph.D. program in clinical psychology. Her hobbies include sailing, snowboarding and photography.


 

 

Jared Roush

Jared joined the lab in the Fall of 2011 as an undergraduate pursuing his B.A. in psychology at CSUF. His research interests include suicide and cognitive distortions in depression and anxiety. Besides his interests in psychopathology, Jared enjoys investigating human functioning and watching fascinating documentaries involving all domains of life. After Jared obtains his B.A., he plans on applying to Ph.D programs in clinical psychology.

Sofia plans to major in psychology with a minor in sociology at CSUF. After her expected graduation in Spring 2013, she plans to apply to psychology M.S. programs. Currently, her research interests are broad and span clinical and social psychology.

Kyle joined the lab when it opened in January 2007. After graduating with his B.A. in Psychology from The University of Connecticut, he obtained his M.S. in Clinical Psychology at CSUF in August 2009. Kyle continues to collaborate with Dr. Scher on various projects including publishing his thesis, The Relationship Between Looming Vulnerability and Performance: The Role of Test Anxiety. Currently, Kyle works for a private company as a behavior therapist and is obtaining his MFT intern hours as a therapist at a local counseling center. His research interests include anxiety disorders, child and adult psychopathology, cognitive vulnerabilities to anxiety disorders, and ethnic minority issues in clinical psychology.

Melissa is expecting to earn her B.A. in psychology in the Spring of 2011. When she isn't busy with school work or research lab projects, Melissa enjoys reading because she feels it allows her to use her imagination! She plans to continue studying anxiety and depression by applying to graduate school in a clinical psychology program after she graduates.
