Each trial is a choice between two gambles. Each gamble consists of a container holding exactly 100 tickets. You choose which container from which a ticket will be drawn at random and the prize printed on the ticket is what you receive. For example, in the first choice below, gamble A is a container with 50 tickets that win $100 and 50 that win $0 (nothing). Gamble B has 50 tickets that win $35 and 50 that win $25. If you choose Gamble B, you are sure to win at least $25 and maybe win $35. If you choose A, you might win $100, but you might also win nothing. Some people will prefer A and others will prefer B.
