Kono, K., & Mearns, J. (2013). Distress of Japanese parents of children with intellectual disabilities:
Correlations with age of parent and negative mood regulation expectancies.
Japanese Psychological Research, 55, 358-365.
In a sample of Japanese parents caring for children with an intellectual disability, we assessed negative mood regulation expectancies (NMRE), using the Japanese NMR Scale. We also assessed coping and symptoms of distress: anxiety, depression and somatization. Older parents had less severe symptoms. Also, stronger NMRE were associated with less severe symptoms, independent of coping and age of parent.
