This research examined the efficacy of a standalone CBT-based smartphone app for reducing problem drinking. Results were opposite of what was hypothesized: more app use increased problem drinking, perhaps suggesting the app increased participants' awareness of the problem without offering solutions. NMRE moderated the effect of app use on problem drinking.
